Successful contact lens wearers find it easy to explain the many benefits of having an alternative to spectacles:
- Alternative appearance – Natural appearance vision correction without the need for surgery
- No heavy frames and lenses
- Ideal for sport (particularly contact sports)
- No issue of spectacles fogging up in winter
- No frames restricting your peripheral vision
- Clear vision from off the shelf sunglasses
On the contrary to common belief, contact lenses are available for patients with astigmatism and reading corrections. Contact lenses are now suitable for all ages from children to elderly covering majority of prescriptions.
Our contact lens assessments include free trial contact lenses for you to take home and try so you can see the benefits outside the test room.
Children can also be fitted with contact lenses. There is not a strict age restriction on when you can be fitted with contact lenses it is often possible to start wearing them under the age of sixteen. Speak to one of our optometrists or contact lens opticians if you are interested and would like to find out if yourself/your child is suitable.
What is included in a contact lens fitting for new or lapsed wearers?
The initial assessment lasts approximately 30 minutes. Our fully qualified optometrists or contact lens optician will have an initial discussion about what you are looking to get from your contact lenses. This is then followed up by an examination of the front of the eye. From these results, we can then discuss which lenses are most appropriate for your eyes and your requirements. Your practitioner will then insert the contact lenses for you so they can assess your vision and the fitting of the contact lenses.
We will then teach you how to insert, remove and care for your lenses. Finally, we discuss ‘do's and don’ts’ of contact lens wear before issuing you with some free trial contact lenses for you to take home and try for yourself. This stage can last approximately 40 minutes.
We then book an 'end of trial' appointment where your friendly practitioner can assess both the contact lenses and your eye health once you have been wearing your lenses. You must come to the appointment wearing your contact lenses (they should have been in for at least 2 hours before attending). If we make any modifications to lens type, further appointments may be necessary.
When you are happy with your contact lens trial you then join our Eyecare Plan. Most of our customers opt for the Eyecare Plan which covers all your contact lens needs and is paid for via monthly direct debit.
